Deep Down in the Devil's Pulpit
Located a short 30 minutes by car from Glasgow, Finnich Glen is truly of otherworldly beauty. It's one of those places where you feel like you've zapped yourself into a J.R.R Tolkien novel. Pretty sure there could be some hobbits running around here....Just saying.
The main focus of Finnich Glen is the magnificent and eerily named Devil's Pulpit. Now I hear you, what the hell would make me climb down something with such a name...but alas I'm a sucker for the unknown so here I am standing at the entrance that leads down to the pulpit hoping that the water streaming down the bottom of the gorge is the only thing down there....
Yip, even the stairway to hell is creepy as hell itself...Pretty sure Dante himself would've thought of this staircase in his 'Inferno' if he'd had the pleasure of discovering it. What I would recommend are walking boots with good grip for the trip down as it does get quite slippy and coupled with the tight spacing, means the use of the handily located chains are needed to help clamber down (and I really do mean clamber, by bum, down). All adding to the fun of it!
When you finally hit the bottom of the gorge you'll be face-to-face with the Devil's Pulpit and boy, is it worth the hike down when you are enclosed in and sharing space with views like these...
So next time you have a few hours free, get yourself to down to the Devil's Pulpit and marvel at this natural wonder.
