Loch Ness Adventures

Loch Ness has always been one of those places in Scotland on my to-explore list. Albeit, it's taken me one hell of a long time to get there.  30 years to be exact.  But come September this year I finally got to tick it off the list and boy did it not disappoint!  The loch itself, Nessie (seriously Nessie where are you??), boat trips, Urquhart Castle, cosy pubs...Loch Ness just has that mix of activities that leave you eager for more.

There's no better way to kick off the Loch Ness fun than with a cruise along it with Cruise Loch Ness. Board at The Clansman Hotel, take a seat on the upper deck (we didn't let the wind stop us as the photos will attest to...) and enjoy an hours leisurely cruise along the loch, stopping off at Urquhart Castle for an hour of exploring then returning back to The Clansman. Perfect!  Make sure you keep an eye on the sonar systems on board to look out for anything lurking below you....and to see how truly magnificently deep Loch Ness really is.

The ruins of Urquhart Castle are astounding. There were so many moments where I was standing taking a picture thinking to myself wow, what would it have been like to have stood here 200 years ago in the midst of all the magic in the castle grounds. Just watch out for the door opening near the top as it bloody does hurt when you whack your head off it...

For lunch we headed to Dores Inn where I had one of the best Mac n Cheeses of my life (have I mentioned I'm a mac n cheese fan, a BIG one). Located right next to the campervan where the Nessie Hunter Steve Feltham stays and right on the southern end of the loch, the Dores is the perfect spot for a bite to eat and to round off a trip to Loch Ness.  Just watch out for those ducks...they follow you back to the car...

We never did catch a glimpse of Nessie on this trip but there's always next time...
