Photo Diary - Montenegro
Montenegro was one of those hidden gem, under the radar destinations.
That is until it became everyone's go-to destination for 2016 with media
outlets from Lonely Planet to The Guardian and many many more, listing it as
one of the year's must-visits. Having been there, I can see exactly why.
My adventures to Montenegro only lasted for one day. Short and
sweet but as the below pictures will testify...worth the short trip I took from
Croatia to explore this fascinating place. Perast, Bay of Kotor and Budva
all showcased some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever had the pleasure
of seeing. This is definitely one for the photographers, and the history
of Montenegro will only seek to whet your appetite for more of this wonderful
Balkan country.
My Montenegro Top 5:
- Stop at the top of the road leading into Perast and you're guaranteed to take in some of the best views you've ever seen.
- Take a boat trip over the bay to Our Lady of the Rocks. Beautiful scenery on the boat coupled with fascinating history of this little islet = makes the trip worth your while.
- Take a guided tour round the fortified town of Kotor with its winding cobbled streets, beautiful churches and little shops.
- Climb the 9th century medieval city walls. One of the highlights of my trip. And bring plenty water. Oh, and sturdy shoes, not Birkenstocks...you have been warned...
- Have a strawberry margarita while relaxing on the beach at Budva. Head for a quick wander around the historic citadel and even view the exclusive Sveti Nikola from afar.
