Scotland's Secret Bunker, Fife

Hidden beneath a Scottish farmhouse lies Scotland's Secret Underground Nuclear Command Bunker - the location where Scotland would have been governed had there been a nuclear war. With ample supply of road signs dotted around Fife (seriously, there's hunners!), flags, signposts and war trucks/memorabilia outside...It's not so much a secret anymore what lies beneath this little farmhouse, but consider that it spent over 40 years hidden from the world, it's worth a trip to the grand old Kingdom of Fife to find out exactly what lies beneath.

Located down a country lane in Troywood, Fife, the bunker is split over two levels, 100 feet underground.  Yes, indeed, 100 FEET!  Suffice to say, you really do feel your oxygen levels ever so slightly take a hit when you're down there for an hour exploring around.

A long dimly lit tunnel (FYI watch out for the fake rats they have!) leads you to the entrance of the bunker deep underground.  Once you pass the doors, you'll be treated to room after room of mystery with bunkrooms, telecom rooms, armoury rooms and even a church.  Below you'll find a few pics from my trip and you can find out more information about the bunker and how to plan your own visit here.

Exploring the bunker will work up quite the appetite so why not pop along to Falkland for a bite to eat.  A charming little village where you can wander around gazing at the 300 year old houses and the magnificence of Falkland Palace.  You'll also spot some locations from the TV show 'Outlander' here!  I had a really decent lunch (a snippet at £5) over at The Lomond Tavern.
